GUIDE Session: Plain Language for Intercultural and Inclusive Communication
Clear, accessible communication is essential when working across languages and cultures. This interactive workshop introduces Plain Language as an intercultural and inclusive communication practice, with a focus on reducing linguistic and cultural barriers for diverse audiences.
Participants will examine how word choice, sentence structure, organization, and design affect understanding—particularly for international students and scholars and others navigating U.S. systems in a second language.
The session offers practical strategies for engaging audiences, simplifying complex or institutional language, and designing messages that are easier to read, hear, and act on. Open to faculty, staff, and international scholars.
